A Arte do Barro e o Olhar da Arte The Art of Clay and the Artistic Eye Vitalino & Verger

12 de December de 2009 a 12 de August de 2010

To commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Vitalino Pereira dos Santos, Mestre Vitalino, the Museu Casa do Pontal and the Pierre Verger Foundation presented 81 pictures of the artist, made by French researcher and photographer Pierre Fatumbi Verger. The exhibit also included a selection of sculptures from the Museum Casa do Pontal. In this exhibition the eye of Pierre Verger, considered by critics as one of the most important photographers of the twentieth century, intersected with the look, also French, of Jacques Van de Beuque, designer and creator of the Museu Casa do Pontal, which has the largest collection of Mestre Vitalino’s work in Brazil. Both became acquainted with Vitalino and Pernambuco in the same year: 1947. And fell in love with the artist and the area. The reunion of these two collections was a rare event, lending a rich density to the centenary of Vitalino’s birth. It provided the public the opportunity to experience the art of the backlands, guided by the grandeur of the black and white photographs, considered master works of Verger.
