They are people who migrate on foot from one place to another during the long periods of drought that devastates the sertão hinterland. In some regions in Northeast Brazil, the drought, which is a cyclical natural phenomenon, achieves catastrophic dimensions: the small farmers cannot survive without water and are forced to leave with their families and animals for other places. Children, the elderly and adults abandon their homes and take to the road in a hard struggle for survival.
